ABOUT ME
My Story: A Journey to Coaching
Ever since I was a young student, I was fascinated by inspirational guest speakers that visited our classrooms sharing their work and life stories with us. Many of those stories sparked an amber that shimmered inside me and would eventually grow to reveal its purpose later in my own professional and personal journey.
As my career took off, exposing me to various industries such as marketing, trading, manufacturing, finance, and logistics within the MENA/GCC region working for different conglomerates and their respective principles in Europe and North America, I gained extensive experience in transforming and developing organisations as well as launching new ventures. Most importantly, I saw incredible value in working and connecting with others working in such organisations.
Over a decade ago, I went back to school again as a corporate professional to obtain my Executive MBA from Cass Business School, City University London. As an adult learner, I greatly benefitted from interacting with other senior executives from various professional backgrounds sharing stories and learning from each other. I loved sharing my own successes and failures but felt the urge to do so in a broader and more meaningful manner beyond just the classroom. As I was still figuring out how to do this, I was hit with a bombshell that threatened to bring everything to a screeching halt.
In the midst of my exams and at a high point of my career, I was diagnosed with a brain tumour that, according to the doctors, would have serious life-threatening ramifications if I didn’t remove it immediately. Even if I survived the surgery, the bleak statical outlook I was presented with by of most of the neurosurgeons I consulted didn’t give me much room for optimism in resuming a healthy and normally functioning life-style.
To make a long story short, and without going into too many the details, the fact that you are reading these words is evidence that I survived this life-changing experience over 10 years later. By not succumbing to the “half-empty glass” perspective, I chose the more positive approach and faced the matter head on with the mind-set that “everything happens for a reason.” Suffice it to say, I am eternally grateful that this eye-opening life event revealed the reason I carried that shimmering amber within me all these years. It all made sense. I finally knew what I wanted to do. I have been blessed with amazing people throughout my life – whether personally or at work as an individual, a husband, a father, a manager and an entrepreneur – who had a tremendous impact in moulding my character and propelling my successes forward. It was time to pay it forward!
After I completed my MBA, I was invited several times as a guest speaker to my own alma mater and eventually other educational institutions to share my professional experience. I began facilitating Executive Education workshops for adult learners, amongst them at PwC’s Academy Middle East covering their Leadership Development programs. Soon afterwards, I decided to teach at university as an adjunct Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology, Dubai (a satellite university of RIT, New York) from the perspective of a corporate practitioner – where I also sit on the Advisory Board of its Management Department. The positive feedback I received from students and faculty encouraged me to do more.
This ultimately led to the pursual of my current passion: becoming a Professional Coach to help people & organisations fulfill the goals they seek. For me, becoming a professional coach was the next natural step in my life journey as an experienced consultant and trainer with a diverse business acumen of over 30 years stemming from expertise that included Corporate & Business Strategy, Human Resource and Change Management. I am also currently the CEO of Storall LLC, an internal consultant of its holding company (A&H Al Ghurair Investment group) and a board member of a few regionally based companies.
